So, I'm coming up to my 8 year anniversary of living in Africa. I can't quite believe that I'm still here. It was NOT the plan to still be here. We were moving to Kenya for 2 years max, I got to quit my job in London, learn Swahili, improve my tan, do something worthwhile, and sip gin & tonics, whilst watching the African sun go down with my new friends.
Well...all did not quite go to plan, the reality is that that living in a new city can be lonely, making new friends, not easy. And not working was frankly boring. Adjusting to life in Africa was a big change. Life in in London was hectic, every moment of my week was full. Now I had time on my hands, and far too much of it. People would say, go to the beach, learn and new sport, take an online course, but African life was slow, and I was bored and lonely.
Fast forward 5 years, mummy to two beautiful girls, and a move to another West African City, I met Anna, a fabulous German mummy who immediately became one of my closest friends. We could talk for hours, the kids got on brilliantly, and we laughed, drank and ate, and most importantly supported each other. So, when she suggested we make the most of this African life, set up our own business and create some ethically and sustainably made kids clothes to sell in Europe I jumped at the idea and Cooee Kids was born.
